ServiceM8 review
Apple-first micro and small reactive teams starting from near zero.
Overview
ServiceM8 is the budget on-ramp: an iPhone-native field-service app with a genuine free tier, monthly billing and a famously light setup. Small reactive teams (a locksmith, a two-van electrician) get scheduling, job cards, photos and invoicing for the price of a takeaway. The ceiling is equally real: quoting depth, contract maintenance, job costing and reporting all sit behind higher tiers (job costing only appears around the £119/mo Premium tier), it is Apple-only in practice, and there is no fleet hardware play.
Strengths and weaknesses
What we like
- Real free tier and transparent monthly pricing — rare here
- Fast, light, app-store-simple onboarding
- Great fit for genuinely small reactive teams
- Add-on ecosystem covers some gaps (e.g. compliance via partners)
What to watch
- Deep features are tier-gated; job costing starts around £119/mo
- Apple-centric — Android field teams look elsewhere
- No hardware, tracking or network plays
- Reporting and contract tools thin versus UK mid-market rivals

Pricing
Free tier, then published tiers roughly £25–£119+/mo with sharper capability gates than most rivals. Cheap to start; calculate the tier you will actually need before committing workflows to it.
Who ServiceM8 is for — and who should skip it
Best for
One-to-five-person Apple-equipped reactive teams digitising paper for the first time.
Probably not for
Android fleets, contract-maintenance businesses, and anyone who knows they will need job costing from month one.
Our verdict — 7.4/10
ServiceM8 is the honest cheapest route into field-service software for tiny UK teams — just price the tier with the features you actually need, not the one with the headline you liked.
